A Real-Life Dream in Costa Rica: Wes & Ilona’s Destination Wedding Story

There are some stories that stay with me long after I finish editing—and Wes and Ilona’s is one of them.

Their story, softly unfolding in their own words.

From the very beginning, their connection felt effortless.

They met through a mutual friend at a birthday party at the W pool, and fittingly, at a costume party where almost no one dressed up, they were the only two fully in character. Ilona had already heard about him, a mysterious blend of Jon Snow and Khal Drogo—and was curious to meet him. The moment they did, everything clicked.

They spent seven hours talking non-stop, completely in their own world. It felt like love at first sight. The rest is history.

A Proposal Full of Meaning

When Ilona told me about the proposal, I could feel how special it was.

Wes planned what she described as the most magical moment, surrounded by all of their closest friends at Electric Forest Festival, a place that already meant so much to them. They had been going there together for the past five years, building memories each time.

She was completely surprised, and everything felt like it came full circle in the most beautiful, almost surreal way.

Why Costa Rica

Costa Rica wasn’t just a destination for them, t was part of their story.

It was the first trip they ever took together, and they fell in love with everything: the culture, the people, the nature. They even said back then that if—when—they got married, it had to be there.

Coming back for their wedding at Casa Chameleon, in Las Catalinas, felt like everything aligned.

What I love most is how intentional they were. They didn’t just want a wedding day, they wanted an experience. Something immersive, intimate, and meaningful where everyone could truly be present.

And Costa Rica gave them that effortlessly.

A Vision: Romantic, Elevated, Ethereal

As I worked through their footage, their vision became so clear.

Romantic, elevated, and a little ethereal. Soft and dreamy, but still completely them.

They incorporated elements that made the day deeply personal, from professional fire dancers to Ilona’s Eastern European Moldovan traditions, and meaningful moments like the unity candle ceremony.

Every detail felt intentional. Nothing felt random.

Moments That Stay Forever

There are certain moments I kept coming back to while editing.

Ilona walking down the aisle and seeing Wes, everything else faded away, she said!. You can feel it in the footage, like the world paused for a second and it was only them.

And then his vows… you can see how emotional it was. That’s one of those moments that will stay with them forever.

Their first look is another one I won’t forget. It was quiet, intimate, grounding. Time felt slower. And seeing him tear up the second he saw her; it’s the kind of moment you don’t need to edit much. It already says everything.

A Shared Experience with the People They Love

One of the things that stood out the most to me was the energy of everyone around them.

Having their friends and family in Costa Rica created something different. Everyone was present, disconnected from real life, fully there with them.

It didn’t feel like just a wedding, it felt like a shared experience, like their own little world for a few days.

And you can feel how much it meant to them to have everyone make that journey. There was so much love in every frame.

Style That Felt Like Them

Ilona’s look was exactly what she described—timeless, but a little unexpected.

When she found her dress, she just knew. It was romantic and made her feel like a real-life princess, and it showed in the way she carried herself.

Wes complemented her perfectly with a cream tailored blazer and black pant tuxedo, bringing in his rockstar sense of style. Together, it just worked effortless and true to who they are.

Advice That Stayed With Me

Something Ilona shared that truly stayed with me—and that I want to pass on to our future couples:

Be intentional about what truly matters and design your day around those priorities.
Make it yours. The personal touches, the authentic experiences, that’s what makes it unforgettable.
Stay present, because it all goes by quickly.
And be thoughtful about your guest list. Surround yourself with the people who have truly been part of your journey and will continue to be part of your life.

Describing Their Wedding Day, In Their Own Words

“A real life dream that felt effortless, magical and full of so much love.”

Closing

This is exactly why I do what I do.

Not just to capture how a wedding looks, but how it feels.

And Wes and Ilona’s day felt like something truly special from beginning to end.

I’m forever grateful to have been part of their story. 🤍
